A Choice to Teach...Some trending parenting techniques claim that the role of parents of babies and toddlers should not focus on education, but allow their children to freely explore the world without the pressures of any sort of schooling. Let me make it very clear: I am not one of these people.

Through my work in Child Care, I have gained the skills and knowledge to teach young children age-appropriate lessons, and motivate them physically, developmentally, and emotionally. Through books, art projects, songs, and widely-available learning materials, children can be taught a variety of brain-stimulating exercises from a very young age.
As a mom, I have learned how to raise a child to be independent, to love, be sensitive to the needs of others, communicate effectively and express his individually. To me, a combination of parent-driven education and child-led exploration is the most effective method.

Educational Shows and DVDsTo say that we don't watch TV in our house would be a lie. But truth be told, it's not much or often. To that end, I'm not one of those moms who lets my kid watch hours on end of useless, stimulating television. Plus, Lucas really doesn't like much TV, it just doesn't hold his interest.
I've found a few quality shows and educational DVDs that Lucas enjoys, many of which have companion or supplementary learning materials. |

All things kids learn in Pre-School (trust me, I've taught it!), that they can learn before they even set foot in a classroom. With a bit of imagination, and a WHOLE LOT of consistency, children can learn just about anything. In fact, they're just like little sponges waiting to soak up any knowledge you immerse them into. |
